On 16th February 1917, he was arrested for organizing and leading independence activities, along with many other leaders. The government of West Bengal awarded him a certificate of honor during the “Blood and Sacrifice Festival of Independence” in Nadia.

Freedom Fighter Krishnasundar Bhowmik (PPO No. POL/16541-C)
He belonged to a respected middle-class family in Krishnanagar (Nadia district). He became the leader of the Krishnanagar Peasant Movement (Krishnanagar Krishak Andolan).
In 1931, under the influence of the Civil Disobedience Movement, he mobilized peasants to resist oppressive taxes. In 1932, he was arrested under Section 144 for organizing mass gatherings in defiance of colonial laws.
In 1962, as President of the Krishnanagar Krishak Samiti, he organized “Krishak Day” and distributed leaflets demanding the rights of peasants.

He was arrested multiple times. On 28 February 1932, while organizing peasants at Majdia (Krishnanagar), the police opened fire on the crowd. Two peasants were killed, and many injured. This incident became known as the Majdia Massacre.
Krishnasundar Bhowmik, along with several others, was jailed without trial. Even after release, he continued to lead farmers in protests against oppressive taxes and police brutality.
During this period, he was seen as one of the strongest voices of the Farmer’s Movement in Bengal, working alongside other revolutionary leaders.
Later, he also joined leftist organizations and worked for the rights of marginalized farmers until 1971.
